About

Iain has over fifty years of playing, recording and teaching experience. Starting with the acoustic guitar at the age of 13, he developed an interest in 60’s blues, classic rock and later rock-fusion and jazz. By the time he was 18, Iain was gigging in pubs and clubs and doing theatre work before moving to South Wales.

His career progressed in Cardiff doing sessions for B.B.C. and H.T.V. during the day while working in nightclubs. He was also running a fusion band and played in the ‘Welsh Jazz Orchestra’, under MD Eric Wetherall.

After backing many artists in the nightclubs through the 70’s Iain relocated to Los Angeles in 1982, to study at the Guitar Institute of Technology (now Musicians Institute). During his time in USA he played with many artists, notably Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and Frank Gambale in Afterburner.

Iain returned to Cardiff in 1989 and appeared in a series of BBC Pop Concerts with the Welsh National Opera before moving to London to join the Guitar Institute (now ICMP Institute of Contemporary Music Performance) as a lecturer writing course material for the Popular Music Degree Program. More recently he has been teaching at the London College of Music (UWL).

Iain has been a regular magazine contributor to ‘The Guitar Magazine’, ‘Guitarist’ and ‘Guitar Techniques’. He has also produced several education titles including “Electric Blues Guitar”, ‘The Modes’ and ‘The Blues’.

In 2002 he acquired an MMus in ‘Composing for Film and TV’ and has now set up a recording studio to develop production music and other composition and recording projects.
